-
On Arrival
The driveway is divided by a wooden fence in the middle. Please take the left driveway marked by the arrow.
Our number is 55.
-
Parking
There’s room for two to three cars but there’s no covered or indoor garage parking available.
-

You can download the app or use the code to get in. Press Yale after the code to open, and Yale to lock the door.
There is a lower lock that should be unlocked, don’t lock it as the key has gone missing. -
No Shoes
We’re a shoe free house, so please take your shoes off in the hallway at the entrance.
We have slippers for your use if the floor is cold.

Heating
If the house is cold, the wood stove will heat the whole house up nicely.
If it is cold in the house when you arrive turn the heat up to 72º then start a fire in the wood stove.
Use small kindling to start a small fire. Open vent to high.
Gradually add more wood.
Always keep an eye on the fire so it’s under control or burning.
-
Electric Heating
We have a NEST system for your convenience; we keep it on ECO, just switch the dial to the desired temp. The bedrooms aren’t on the NEST system; you will need to manually adjust on the baseboard heater. There is an ON-OFF dial on the inside (it will be marked) cover of each heater per bedroom.
In the winter set to 72-74. No need to go higher than that, the baseboard heating won’t get the house that hot. You will need to supplement with the wood stove.
-
Woodstove
The woodstove is great once it gets going, but it can take a while, even for those who have made plenty of fires.
A few tips for the woodstove - some other tips Set the bottom damper vent to high (keep the door cracked open to add more airflow) Use kindling and a fire starter provided and gradually add wood. (Only use the dry seasoned wood provided in the circular container or stacked along the concrete deck).
The wood stacked on the gravel is not seasoned yet and won’t catch or provide the right level of heat. Once the fire has got going for an hour or so, turn the damper vent down.
THE CHIMNEY GETS VERY HOT. KEEP YOUNG CHILDREN AWAY. DO NOT TOUCH WHEN HOT!
-
Wood
Use smaller pieces to get the fire going. If you could re-stack the circular container with wood from under the window or bench, that would be amazing.
Living Room
-
Ramen Bar
Inside you’ll find a few board games, pens, paper, a first aid box amongst other things. Be careful not to damage the wood with hot cups or wine. You’ll find coasters to prevent this.
Games include Chess, Monopoly, Scrabble, Jenga, Codewords, Jigsaw puzzles and playing cards
-
Music
We have a Bluetooth powered speaker system that you can connect to. It’s also hooked up to a turntable. Connect via Bluetooth on your phone, tablet or laptop then ‘Pair’ with Klipsch,
and you should be all set. There’s a remote control unit to adjust volume levels and sub bass levels.
Please don’t blast the system, it’s there for your enjoyment, but be respectful of it. Feel free to bring your records and treat the ones in the house with care. Any major damage to the turntable or music system will incur an $800 charge.
-
TV
We have a portable projector, Apple TV in the ramen bar and a 100” projector screen in the living room. Please treat them with caution as well - any major damage will incur a $500 charge.
Kitchen
-
Water
Water comes from a private well. We have it tested and it’s great to drink. When the house is empty for a few days it can smell a little, but entirely natural. Just run the taps and it should go away.
-
Dinnerware
Pots, pans, glassware and cutlery are in and around the kitchen, and wine glasses in the ramen bar. We’re stocked with basics like oils, sugars, coffees, and teas and preserves. There’s a coffee grinder and 6 cup Chemex with a metal filter.
-
Oven
**OUR OVEN IS TEMPERAMENTAL, IT DOES WORK THOUGH
To use the oven - Push and hold the oven control knob for at least one second. Release and turn it anti-clockwise, setting the desired temperature. This sequence must be performed within seven seconds. If you hear a clicking sound while lighting up the oven, this is normal.
-
Microwave
The microwave - press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. It’s 750 watts, so you may need to add additional time to cooking if you’re used to an 850+.
-
Dishwasher
Dishwasher - (may ask for rinse aid but, it will still run) Tablets are in the cupboard under the sink.
Please flush toilet paper only. No paper towels or wipes or anything else or you could block the septic system. We have a walk in shower, no bath. There are complementary shampoos and body washes from Sowako.
The water comes from our well and via an on-demand gas heater. It takes a few seconds to get to temperature, just turn the knob all the way and wait. The pressure isn’t super intense at first, but after a few mins it should get to max.
When it’s cold there’s a heater on the wall adjacent to the washer/dryer. It blows warm air on the flow and can heat up the room and floor nicely. Turn the knob clockwise a few notches and wait a moment until it switches on. Please remember to switch off the heater when leaving the house.
Washer/Dryer - In the bathroom is where you will find the washer/dryer if you need it for any reason. Please remove lint from the dryer filter before/after use.

Corner Bedroom
-
Sliding Doors
The door closest to the bedroom isn’t working so well. Please slide the doors closest to the living area to the right to close off the room.
-
Closet Doors
Behind here you will find hangers and spare linens. There’s an ironing board if you need. Not that you really need one!
There’s a mark on the door, that’s been there for a while.
Tatami Room
Tatami is made of natural straw. In the summer it absorbs moisture from the air, in the winter it releases the moisture with a natural straw fragrance on dry days. To prevent unnecessary damage - no pets, shoes or wet objects should be allowed on the tatami.

Outside
-
Grill
There should always be plenty of Propane. Take off cover. Ensure gas is open on the Propane tank.
On the grill press and twist the burner for ignition. (it might need a couple of tries)
Full gas 9 o’clock. Min Gas is 6’oclock.
-
